
SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 18
(By Senators Bowman, McKenzie, Kessler, Edgell, Unger and Redd)
Recognizing the accomplishments of the Oak Glen High School
wrestling team.

Whereas, The Oak Glen High School wrestling team had an
exceptional 2000-2001 wrestling season which earned it the
opportunity to participate in the 2001 Class AA-A West Virginia
championship competition; and

Whereas, The Oak Glen High School wrestling team won the 2001
West Virginia Class AA-A championship, setting a new state record
with its fifth consecutive win; and

Whereas, Other team accomplishments include the Brooke Classic
championship, the Knights Inn Invitational championship, the OVAC
Tournament AAA championship, the Region 1 championship and the OVAC
AAA Dual Meet championship; and

Whereas, This outstanding team, lead by head coach Larry Shaw,
who was selected as the 2001 West Virginia Class AA-A Coach of the
Year, and his assistants Bill Wells, Rick Brown, Greg Six and Mark
Wiersbicki, along with trainer Randy Elliott, are to be commended
for their exceptional coaching ability; and

Whereas, Varsity team members, including Justin Goneau, Ian
Whittington, Garrett Six, Gaelen Lowers, Eric Noel, Kyle Eckleberry, Steve Flowers, Matt Wharton, Derrick Stickles, Ronnie
Herbrock, Philip Bellville, Patrick McGillian and Joey Caughey, are
commended for their outstanding athletic ability, sportsmanship and
team spirit; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby recognizes the accomplishments of the
Oak Glen High School wrestling team for winning its fifth
consecutive West Virginia Class AA-A championship; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby congratulates Oak
Glen High School head wrestling coach Larry Shaw on his selection
as the 2001 West Virginia Class AA-A Coach of the Year; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to head coach Larry Shaw, the members of
his coaching staff and to each team member.
